Hum is small, nimble and dedicated.

We build trusted relationships as the foundation for understanding the real problems and implementing workable solutions.

Our problem-solving models starts with clarity on business strategy and desired outcomes, and cascades through value, plan and project alignment. We use a human-centred approach and focus on strengths instead of deficits to uncover win-win solutions, to move people though change, and to develop internal capabilities and culture along the way.

Maren Strachan

Founder and Principal

In working across sectors, industries and cultures I have built up a set of attributes and a mindset to lead and engage organisations, usually though transformative change. This set of abilities and skills have been called many things and used under many titles, but always with the outcome of realizing organisational vision and achieving business outcomes.

Originally from the United States, I’ve lived in Australia over fifteen years. Working in both for-profit and non-profit organisations has positively shaped the values I bring to work, and how I work with teams and people. I love facilitation, coaching and making strategy real for people. I naturally gravitate to working with teams and groups and continue to find it inspiring as teams leverage their strengths and solve complicated problems together.

Through diverse experiences I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to develop strategy and cascade it into meaningful actions and tactics, shape organisational culture and manage day-to-day operations. Applying transformation and design thinking to strategic initiatives is the way I choose to bring clarity and focus to underlying organisational challenges, ensuring outcomes that provide maximum beneficial operational efficiencies.

It’s those A-ha! moments when people see not only what’s possible, but also how to get there – that’s my why, my hum, what makes it all worthwhile for me.
